Scanner

D-640™ versatile 3D scanning for all types of dental restorations.
3Shape's D-640™ is a state-of-the-art 3D scanner used to create accurate 3D scans of dies/stumps, inlay preparations, bridge preparations, bites/antagonists, wax-ups, full dental casts, and implant position (requires the AbutmentDesigner™ add-on module - sold separately for an additional charge).

3D copies of the full casts or dies/stumps are available after a few minutes. Saved in an open and standard format, typically STL, they can be used directly in 3Shape's modeling software package, Dentaldesigner™ or in other open third-party software applications. The scanning system runs on a standard Windows™-based PC (included) and requires no specific expertise to be operated.

Technology

The D-640™ scanner uses the most advanced optical scanning technology. Laser planes are projected onto the object and two high-resolution digital cameras acquire images of the lines created on the cast or die(s). 3Shape’s unique image processing software automatically captures and processes the images to creates accurate and fully surfaced 3D models.

Accurate and complete object geometry

Some unique features of the D-640™ scanner guarantee superior scan results without compromising ease of use. The scanner captures the full geometry of the dental model (including any undercuts present on the original model) in one scanning session with high accuracy.

  • Easy and automatic calibration to ensure constant scan quality
  • Fast and easy positioning of the objects in the scanner
  • Consistently high levels of precision are guaranteed by projective geometry and a novel calibration of the laser, cameras and axes (can easily be performed by the user)
  • Undercuts on the original object are automatically captured: the object is placed on a rotation plate (360 degree rotation) and is moved along a linear axis (translation) and a secondary rotation axis (tilt) to ensure an optimal exposure of the geometry to the cameras and laser

Main advantages of the D-640™ scanner

Versatility: The D-640 handles most types of dental models, according to your scanning needs: dies/stumps, inlays (incl. deep inlays), bridge preparations (from 2 to 14 units), wax-ups (crowns, bridges), pontics, full casts (up to 16 units), antagonists (double scans of silicone bite or cast), implant position (AbutmentDesigner add-on module required).

Open file formats: The D-640 is fully compatible with all open manufacturing solutions and applications available on the market: the 3D files can be saved and exported in a number of standard formats, such as STL. In practice, this means that you have complete freedom in your choice of materials (zirconia, metal alloys etc.), technology (CNC, 3D printing or sintering) and configuration (outsourced or integrated manufacturing).

High and consistent levels of accuracy: 20 microns. Continuous validation using Mitutoyo™ ceramic metrology gauge blocks (surface-to-surface accuracy of 15 microns).

One-button scanning: Just place the object (cast, bridge, die...) in the scanner: no precise positioning is required. Click on one button in the scanning software and 3Shape’s unique scanning technology ensures a complete coverage of the whole geometry of the object, including all undercuts.

Alignment of scanned parts: Using 3Shape’s unique algorithms, the scanner automatically aligns different scanned parts (upper and lower bite, die and dental cast etc.).

Automatic 3D model creation from scanned data: The scanner software automatically creates a surfaced 3D model from the acquired point cloud data. The 3D files are ready to be modeled in 3Shape’s Dentaldesigner™ or other open format third-party CAD software.

Dentaldesigner™

Dentaldesigner™ is the most powerful, flexible and intuitive 3D CAD software package for crown and bridge work. It allows you to design all types of dental restorations and combine them freely in one single design session. All modeled items are ready to be separately milled or manufactured on any suitable CAM equipment.

Dentaldesigner

Flexible and advanced dental restoration design

User friendliness: DentalDesigner™ offers an intuitive user interface customized for easy restoration design. The operator is guided through all the steps of the design process. Dentaldesigner™ fully supports graphic tablets, which enhance design freedom by replicating the traditional wax knife.

Versatility: Dentaldesigner™ allows you to rapidly design copings, crowns, wax-ups, or bridge frameworks according to your needs: just select the tooth/teeth preparations you want to work on and specify the restoration type you want to design.

Multidimensional interface: The software allows the user to work in 3D and 2D simultaneously. This helps selecting the most appropriate views in order to optimize the performance of each design step.

Customisable libraries: You have the choice to select standard 3D teeth and pontics from our libraries or create your own collection by scanning your own items, such as pontics or crown wax-ups.

Real-time analysis: A collection of interactive tools allows you to take precise measurements and have a quick overview of alternative designs. It is also possible to test the strength of a given restoration according to its chosen material.

Flexibility: All modeling operations can be undone/redone in real time at any step of the design process. This makes it possible to easily perform alternative designs as needed, to resume a design in progress at a later stage, and to quickly amend an existing design.

Productivity: Complex restoration design can be completed within a few minutes and results of modeling can be assessed on screen immediately.

Open output format: All 3D files created by 3Shape’s Dentaldesigner™ are saved in an open and standard format (typically STL): they can be milled, sintered or 3D printed on the compatible equipment of your choice, either in-house or by a service provider.

Continuous evolution: Dentaldesigner™ undergoes continuous and rapid development in order to maintain its position as leading dental restoration CAD system. Aside from a steady stream of new features and capabilities, its existing functions and CAM interface also undergo a major improvement with each release.
